About the Service Center

The_OFFICE_Howard_small.jpg

Formerly located in Howard and Dorothy Beye's basement, the FLTC Service Center was moved to its present location in June 1, 2001 when the US Army Corps of Engineers generously decided to lease their house to a non-profit organization.

The remaining tools, files, furniture, and other gear that Howard had been storing was moved to Mt. Morris by volunteers after his untimely dealth in 2008.

The office is staffed by Gene Bavis, Executive Director; Stephanie Spittal, Order Fulfillment/General Information; and Jennifer Hopper, Accounting and Database Assistant.

Volunteers assist the staff with  mailings several times each year. Gene Bavis and Gail Ellsworth work on the annual membership renewal mailing.

George Zacharek, former long-time FLT Board of Managers member, Wally Wood Award winner, and end-to-ender, took a ride in a warplane for his 80th birthday.  The Mt. Morris Service Center can be seen in the center of this photo.

This totem pole, standing outside the Service Center, has mileage signs pointing the way to all the trails that can be reached from here. You can take a short hike on the Genesee Valley Greenway, just two miles away--or if you're more adventurous, hike the Finger Lakes Trail system and the North Country National Scenic Trail from here all the way to North Dakota!

Installed in 2001 for the 40th anniversary of the FLTC, the totem pole rests in a planter that contains soil and water from each of the seven states along the route of the North Country Trail.
