Awards for Volunteers
The following awards are authorized by the FLTC Board of Managers.
This award is presented each year to a person or persons who have made outstanding contributions to the Finger Lakes Trail Conference. At the annual Spring Meeting, the awardee is presented with either a hiking stick with a small removable engraved plate, or a large engraved plate, to commemorate their achievement.
The award honors the memory of Wallace D. Wood, the founding President of the Finger Lakes Trail Conference. Mr. Wood is shown here with the first Wally Wood Award, a silver bowl, which he received in 1984.
Clar-Willis Distinguished Trail Volunteer Award
Ed Willis at 25th Anniversary at Ithaca College 1987
This award is made to an individual or pair of individuals who have made a significant contribution as trail workers over a period of time. They may be members of the Conference or members of one of our Trail Sponsor organizations. The award is presented each year at the Fall Campout. Honorees receive two embroidered patches and a pair of loppers with an engraved plate.
This award honors Harry Clar and Ed Willis two gentlemen who were instrumental in keeping the Trail well-maintained.
This award is given to an individual, group or organization in the public or private sector that has made a significant contribution toward the improvement of hiking and/or trails in New York State. It is given at most once per year, and may be made at any time within the calendar year. The award is authorized by a Resolution of the Board of Managers, and is commemorated by an engraved plaque.
This award was created in 2004 by the Board of Managers for those very few individuals who just keep on giving and giving to the Finger Lakes Trail, well beyond the normal span of years that even the most generous of volunteers contribute their time and effort to our mission.
The award was first given to Ed Sidote. The second recipient was the man whose name the honor bears, Howard Beye. Tom Reimers is the third person to be honored. All of these people received the Wally Wood Award and many other accolades before being given this award.
