Have you ever had a yen to try out a hike in the Finger Lakes area, but didn't have a clue how to begin? There are 900 miles of marked and mapped trail right in your own backyard on the Finger Lakes Trail (FLT). How do we find this trail, you ask? Where would be a nice scenic day hike for the novice hiker? What should we bring? How do we get back to our car?
Not to worry! Volunteers with the Finger Lakes Trail are offering Hiking 101, a series of hikes on the FLT to assist novice hikers to learn the ropes. 2014 will offer the hikes in the Prattsburg to Naples area, in Steuben and Yates counties. Each hike will be lead by an accomplished local hiker, who will give you all the details on day hiking. You just need to register, bring your lunch and lots of water, wear sturdy shoes, and get in shape for the inevitable hills.
Registrants will all receive detailed directions where to gather for each hike, instructions and advice, an embroidered patch at a final hike picnic, for the modest fee of $25.00/person. Registration is limited, and will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.
