The Finger Lakes Trail Conference invites you to participate in the 4th annual “Hiking 101" Hike Series.
Hiking 101 is a series of four guided hikes which are geared towards the novice hiker, who may have little or no actual hiking experience. This year’s hike series will take place in Steuben County and sample some of the beautiful and varied footpaths on the Bristol Hills branch of the Finger Lakes Trail. Our goal is to expose you to the great sport of hiking. This hike series is considered an easy to moderate level of hiking, and hikes will vary from 4.9 to 6.2 miles.
Each hike will begin with hikers meeting at the end point. Buses will then transport you to the beginning point of the respective hikes. Experienced hike leaders and “sweeps” will guide the group along the trail, ending back at the cars. Most hikes will have a “sag wagon” strategically placed at crossroads with water and snacks.Â
The series will end with a picnic for all hikers to celebrate their personal accomplishments with food, beverages, awards and camaraderie with your new friends.
Registrations will be due in the FLTC Office by June 1, 2013. Cost for the entire series is approximately $27.00 per person (children under 18 w/adult = $15). A special discounted membership rate is offered if you are not an FLTC member.
Hikes are on the 3rd SUNDAY of each month:Â Â
June 16 - 4.9 miles
July 21 - 5.1 miles
August 18 - 6.1 miles
September 22 - 6.2 miles
The bus leaves the meeting place at 9:00am.
Hike plots, maps, directions and parking locations will be sent to registrants.
While we will provide sunshine, guides, sag wagons, and buses, you must:
Be in physical shape to hike a varied terrain 3-4 hours at a steady pace.
Bring plenty of water and your own lunch.
Wear sturdy hiking boots/shoes with comfortable socks, not sandals, flip flops, or flimsy footwear. Hiking poles are encouraged.
