Each year, the FLTC cooperates with affiliate organizations to sponsor a Cross-County Hike Series. The series includes several organized hikes, about one per month, that are intended to promote hiking on the Finger Lakes Trail. Many members use these hikes in their quest for End-to-End awards. When you register for a series and participate in all of the hikes, you will have crossed a major section of the Finger Lakes Trail. There is a modest registration fee that covers the cost of transportation between the ends of each hike.
2017 County Hike Series
We have added Ulster County to the County Hike Series!
The 2017 county hike series will cover the far eastern end of the FLT -- Ulster County and part of Delaware County. The series will consist of five hikes covering fifty-five miles in the rugged Catskill Mountains. Heading East to West, four maps, M33 through M30, will be covered.
Dates for the hikes are the third Saturday of each month, May through September. We will start in May because there is often snow on the trails in April and access points are not always accessible. Parking is at a premium at some of the trailheads so we may need to be innovative for a few of the hikes, including having those hiking in the same speed group carpooling to the bus pickup point / endpoint.
Be prepared for rugged terrain, significant elevation changes, and few bail out spots. Sign up will start after the first of the year and further details will be available then.
Dates are May 20th, June 17th, July 15th, August 19th, and September 16th.
Please contact the 2017 County Hike Series coordinator -- Donna Coon, email@example.com -- with any questions.
The $85 member registration fee covers transportation by bus that will shuttle hikers from their cars to the beginning of each hike. The fee also includes a completion patch, certificate, and supplies for the sag wagons.
